Leaving from the Marina in Lagos, we will reach this area of outstanding natural beauty in about 10 minutes. These amazing rock formations are called Ponte de Piedade and it stretches out over a short distance of 2 miles/3 kms.
Due to the position of the rock formations we will be sheltered by waves and wind for most of the trip.

Itinerary
After boarding in the Lagos Marina, we follow the river and pass some iconic points of Lagos such as the fish market and the 15th century slave market on our way to the grottos.
After passing the harbour mouth and the 17th century maritime fortress, you will see immediately the first rock formations of Ponte da Piedade
One of the world’s most photographed beaches we soon pass is Praia Dona Ana.
Before you´ll pass the secluded beach of Praia do Camilo we sail underneath an impressive archway.
Another archway leads us to the tip of Ponte da Piedade with its picturesque lighthouse. Here we´ll visit the caves named “Kitchen” and “Living room”.
Around the point you can enjoy impressive views of this rugged coastline with its sandstone cliffs.

On the way back from the Ponte da Piedade lighthouse we anchor in a secluded bay in front of small beach that is in fact only accessible from the water.
In this little bay we get out the snorkel masks and you are invited to explore the underworld. On a good day you should be able to see sea urchins, starfish and sometimes seahorses.
The seabed here is a mix of sand and rock, there is no coral.
Since the water temperature is around 18 – 20ºC we usually see that half an hour is sufficient time to have a peak underwater and then climb back in the boat to warm up. The boat has a swim ladder attached to the rear, and the skipper is happy to lend you a hand of course.

From Lagos we travel the 3 miles and in about 10 minutes we arrive at Alvor lagoon. We aim to visit the warm and quiet Ria de Alvor only when it is low tide. We then will enjoy the most of its sandbanks and warm shallow waters.
We´ll anchor near a quiet sandbank and here you can search for shells and crabs. We will also bring a football.
The boat has a swim ladder attached to the rear, and the skipper is happy to lend you a hand of course.
